Save Our Rainforest Race (SORR) organised by Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam (PEKA) was held successfully last Saturday.
About 2,000 “Green Army” joined this year event and planted 1,000 new trees for our future generation.
This 2nd edition was held at Hutan Simpan Sg. Besi near Alam Damai in Cheras area.
The inaugural SORR was attended by 1,000 participants last year at Chamang Waterfall in Bentong, Pahang.
It’s objective is to raise awareness about serious deforestation problems in Malaysia. In addition, it’s also a platform to educate public on the importance of protecting and conserving the rainforests.
The SORR is a duo team event, my partner this time around was Hairi aka Zinov. There are 5 tasks that we need to do in order to complete this non- running event, it’s more of a walk or hike into the jungle. There’s no podium nor cash price for the participants, all are considered winners once they completed the task and cross the 10km finish line.
- Task 1 - (10 questions about environment and rainforests – Yes or No answers)
- Task 2 – Collect gloves and soil for tree planting task
- Task 3 – Assemble rock puzzle about PEKA’s motto
- Task 4 – Planting the trees
- Task 5 – Named and match trees names with their scientific names.
Due to the heavy rain the night before, the trail was a bit slippery. It was quite a technical trail, a bit challenging but fun.
At the end, we’re given a medal each at the finish line for our effort.
Hats off to the organiser for a great event. Oh yes, breakfast and lunch was provided for this event.
I will be officially be the voice of PEKA for my UTMF run. I will promote and help to raise more awareness to “Save Our Rainforest” initiatives through my running.
Thank you Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil and PEKA for this opportunity to represent your organisation and be part of “Save Our Rainforest” effort.
