Last Saturday was a hectic day for me, we attended a friend wedding in Kajang and then doing the weekly groceries shopping before going to Putrajaya for the race. I been looking for babysitter for my two sons, while me the missus went running the Shape Run, but to no avail. So we decided to run with buggy and stroller with our little family. Thankfully, at the eleventh hour, my friend who resides in Bangi offered to babysit my children for the night.

It was raining cats and dogs in PJ and KL when we embarked for our journey to Bangi, it was 6:10 pm and i was so late preparing for the event; don’t even think its possible for me to attend the FMVs + RBUs meet and greet session organised by the Queen. The road leading to Bangi was slow moving due to the heavy rains, and we arrived at Bangi at around 6:50 pm, then the kids started crying and we had comfort them before leaving them at the friends house. I drove like crazy towards Putrajaya and reached parking spot behind the PoJ exactly at 7:25 pm, we then made a bee line towards the Surau loacated at Putrajaya Corporation building. We soon realised that Putrajaya is spared from the heavy rains, ohhh it’s gonna be long and humid night as i remembered running the horrible Putrajaya (Half) Marathon last February. I also remembered that i haven’t had anything to eat apart from a plate of rice during lunch, during our mad rush going here and there; we forgot to properly eat, we only had a can of Red Bull before the race.
After the maghrib prayer, i quickly rushed and ditched my bag pack to the bag collection counter. I met Nizam, Saiful (a runner i met during SCKLM clinic) and Syed/Crushio at the Surau, nice to see familiar faces during this event. The missus had earlier discussed with me that we can’t run together as the women category will only start at 8:20 pm (according to the our receipt stub). As i made my way towards the starting point and tried to stretch my legs, the gun went off with loud cheering, damn it this the worst preps ever for a race. So i started running from behind the large crowd and passed KA who was waiting for K.June to pass him a…skirt?? While running i noticed that there were women runners with the male runner…WTH is going on? Then it occurred me that both men and female were flag off at the same time, i stopped and stand at the sidewalk and took off my mobile from the SPIbelt and called the missus. Two called made but no answer, i hoped that she won’t wait 20 minutes before realising there’s no one in the starting point. I waited a while from the side walk and tried to look her before decided i wait for her at finishing line later.
I continued my run, later at around roundabout just before the bridge towards PICC, i saw two familiar figure, and one of them in Clown costume – that Ijam i said to myself. I ran faster and tapped Ijam on the shoulder, he was running with Zaki. He was asking where were you dude? Explained to him massive traffic jam in KL! While running, there were a lot of runners said hello to Ijam as he was the odd ones amongst the three of us; and get this….all the runners that said hello is girls! Ijam your wet dreams is coming thru bruder..he he. I bet he was running high in ecstasy! I started the lambung session that nite, everytime a girl said hello to Ijam, i add few replies “Hello my name Clown, you can call me BADUT, my number is 1800 – B A D U T”. I could be a chatterbox sometimes, after a while Ijam asked me to shut up..he he. “Hello Houston we got problem here”..not really problem, but we got one SHY CLOWN here. When i refused to heed to his wishes, IJam sped off into the night..hey wait for us! His blistering pace left both of us eating smokes, i bet there were many runners cried that night, why? because most of the them could not believe some clown is faster than them. After that Zaki and myself played catch up, we exchange leading the run.
Truth to be told, i was struggling during the run, low on energy plus they only served plain water at the Water Stations. I got issues with Night run, especially with Putrajaya..it’s too damn humid! Putrajaya 2: Rayzeef 0 , come to think of it, ENR race at Cyberjaya is also on my hate list. Night Race – 3 : Rayzeef – 0. My pace was everywhere that night, i felt relief once we passed the PICC syaitoon hills, going down hill i was able push to my normal pace. There were many familiar runners that i passed and tried to pace that night, i passed one of the Kassim Sisters (Miss E) after the Bridge at Lebuh Sentosa. I asked her about the older version, she replied at the back as usual..he he (good siblings rivalry never ends). Up until 6 km, i was pacing Shanaz – a runner i met in Dailymile, she is a strong runner, she kept a strong and steady pace and lost her bum sight after 6 km..hu hu.
After that i was running on empty and felt so hungry, then i remembered i stashed away a power gel in my SPIbelt. Quickly gulped down the gel with water at 7km/8km Water Station; after few minutes i felt better and more energize to run, i was able to kept a steady pace up until the psycho detour nearing the finish line. I was pacing with Doris after the last curve/turn towards the finish line, she was putting her game face on, running and facing straight to the front, not even looking at peeps surrounding her. I really admires these kind of runners, their energy and aura of determination brushed off to others, man she was fast and doing the power finish sprint and was rewarded with limited medals at the finish line, congrats! As with me, i completed with the time of 1:16:45' (net time), official time will be announce a day or two later in Hooha website.

Yim: I rasa macam nak terkentut la
Ijam: Yim tahan dulu, ramai orang ni. Jatuh saham aku nanti..
KA: Yim aku dah terkentut la.. hi hi
Yim: Patut la bau petai, you makan petai tak ajak i pun..

Yim, KA..aircon kasi tutup sikit boleh tak? Tengok macam McIjam tu, ayu gitu

Wa pakai skirt tadi rasa seksi gila babe, wa cakap lu. Ramai orang phewitt kat gua..
Met the gang right after the finishing line, K.June, Ijam, Zaki, KA, Yim, K.June, Zarin, Shuk, Che the Ziggman and the rest of RBUs and FMVs clan, took some photos with the noisiest peeps at the race. Ijam is becoming more popular each race with his alter ego “McIjam” with photos demands from runners everywhere. Found out later that Amsyah DNS the event due to massive jams in KL, he was supposed to run with his daughter that night.
After getting the goodies bag and some refreshment, i went back to the finish line to wait for the missus to complete her race. She completed with the time of 1:58, considering she did not train at all after the 10km at SCKLM, this would be her greatest feat. PBIM would be our next adventure :)
Lessons learnt
1. Eat well before race
2. Come early to race venue – to stretch and preparations
3. Need to train night run before nite race
4. Respect the distance – although considered short run, need to train properly nevertheless.
The Good
1. Ample and secured parking space
2. Overall a good event
3. Goodies bag
The Bad
1. No Milo!
2. No Isotonic drinks at water stations
The Ugly
1. A cheating runner was caught and yelled by the race officers when he tried to cross over to other side of the road just before the PICC. The officer said “Next time don’t run this event”; the bugger replied “I gave up the race and wanna go home”. Come on, don’t be a smart ass and tryin’' to fool the officers, he’s been there and done that.
2. Some big wig arguing about the road closure with traffic cop manning and stopping vehicles near a junction a Precint 7. Come on Tan Sri/Datuk, the cop is only doing his job, if you think that you’re more important than the rest of us. Please buy a helicopter and save us from seeing your ugly face.
